At JW Shop, we love pushing machines to their limits. Recently, a client gave us carte blanche to create the ultimate custom build for his Sur-Ron Light Bee, with a single objective: to create a performance beast, without compromise. In this video and article, we reveal the secrets of this nearly €16,000 build, reaching a power of 29kW, from A to Z.
This is the perfect guide to understand not only which parts to choose, but more importantly, why they make a difference on the track.
Step 1: The Foundation – Frame and Cockpit
Every good build starts with a healthy and reinforced base. On the Sur-Ron, certain points are known for their original weakness. So, we address them directly.
We start by replacing the headset with a Blackbearing model, one of our best-sellers that protects the head tube. We then add the Frame Clamp to prevent ovalization. For rigidity and aesthetics, we install a reinforcement bar and Warp 9 magnesium footpegs.
For the cockpit, we opt for a Funn handlebar with a 75mm rise, mounted on a Warp 9 direct-mount stem, all secured by a Warp 9 stem compression kit. This is the perfect configuration for optimal control.
Step 2: The Heart of the Beast – The 29kW Powertrain
This is where the magic happens. To achieve stratospheric power, the motor/controller/battery combo must be flawless.
The choice fell on the formidable Torp TM25 motor, coupled with the essential Torp TC1000 controller. To power this monster, nothing less than an Amperion 80V 50Ah battery with 50S cells, capable of delivering all the necessary power without flinching. A custom battery support plate ensures a perfect fit.
Step 3: Ground Connection – Suspension and Chassis
Having 29kW is good. Being able to use it is better. The chassis has therefore been completely revised to match.
We installed a high-end Italian suspension combo: the EXT Ferro fork at the front and the EXT Arma MX shock absorber at the rear. The whole is mounted on a magnificent iZi Brother swingarm, combined with a Warp 9 linkage and suspension triangle for perfect progression.
For the drivetrain, the original belt is replaced by a much stronger Warp 9 420 primary chain kit. The wheels are custom 19/16 models, shod with excellent Dunlop MX34 tires, with a Warp 9 54-tooth sprocket at the rear.
Step 4: Finish and Protection – The JW Shop Touch
Details make perfection. To stop the beast, we installed Hope Tech 4 V4 brakes with 220mm Warp 9 discs. Comfort is not left behind with our famous "Made by JW Shop" seat riser which significantly improves the riding position.
Finally, to ensure the bike withstands the worst treatment, we equipped it with our TPU frame bumpers and our reinforced 4mm extended skid plate. An adjustable Warp 9 kickstand completes the package.
Conclusion: An Ultimate Build, Ready to Ride
This Sur-Ron is nothing like the original model. Every part has been designed for performance, reliability, and riding pleasure. It's a perfect example of what can be achieved when passion and expertise meet.
