Thermal or Electric Motocross: Advantages / Disadvantages After 1 Year?

Exploring the off-road world: Between electric and thermal motocross, from our beginnings to today. What is the BHR worth compared to the Stark at 37 horsepower equivalent?

Introduction: The start of an adventure

About a year ago, I took the plunge and decided to purchase a thermal motocross bike.
This decision was the starting point of an incredible adventure, because I had never before experienced off-road driving, let alone on a thermal motorcycle.
But this experience would change my view of the off-road world forever.

Discovery of electricity at Crassier

My first experiences in the world of electric off-roading took place at Crassier, an emblematic place for off-road motorcycle enthusiasts.
There, I had the opportunity to try out various electric models, ranging from the lightweight Lightbee to the powerful Stark Varg.
Each ride was an adventure in itself, offering unique sensations thanks to their generous suspensions and surprising stability.

A step towards thermal with the BHR 300

Despite my love for electric motorcycles, I felt the need to explore the world of thermal off-roading.
This is how I decided to acquire a thermal BHR 300.
This transition was not without its challenges, as it involved adapting to a different way of operating, with its own requirements in terms of starting, shifting and maintenance.
But I was determined to take on this challenge and compare the two worlds to better understand their respective advantages.

The challenges of thermal and the advantages of electric

Riding a thermal motorcycle proved to be a stimulating but demanding experience.
The first days were marked by constant adjustments and technical challenges, such as starting, changing gears and regular maintenance.
Comparatively, electric motorcycles offered easier handling and a smoother ride, allowing me to focus more on enjoying the ride.

Electric vs. thermal: My personal choice

After exploring both off-road worlds, I realized my heart was leaning more towards electric motorcycles.
Not only for their ease of use and performance, but also for their reduced noise impact, which preserves the natural atmosphere of the places where I practice.
Although I understand the attachment to the characteristic sound of thermal motorcycles, I am convinced that electric motorcycles offer a more practical and environmentally friendly experience.

Timing results: Electric vs. thermal

In addition to my subjective impressions, I also tested the timed performances of the electric and thermal motorcycles on identical courses.
The results were enlightening: on a given circuit, I noticed a significant improvement in my journey times with electric motorcycles compared to thermal motorcycles.
This difference in performance reinforced my belief that electric motorcycles not only offer a smoother experience, but also superior performance in the terrain.

Conclusion: A year of adventure and evolution

In conclusion, this year spent exploring the electric and thermal worlds of off-roading has been a real adventure.
I learned to appreciate the unique benefits of each type of motorcycle, while refining my personal preferences.
Whether you are passionate about thrills or simply curious to discover new horizons, I encourage you to embark on this adventure and find the off-road motorcycle that best suits your needs and preferences.

Thank you for following our journey and sharing my passion for off-roading!
