For a long time, when people wanted to upgrade the power of a Sur-Ron or Talaria, one name systematically came up: Torp. But faced with frequent stock shortages, we set out to find a serious alternative. That's when we discovered VTB. What was supposed to be a simple test turned into a full-blown adventure: a meeting with the team at EICMA in Italy, and the exclusive installation of their new Generation 2 (V2) on our Supermoto-prepared Ultra Bee.
So, is VTB the "Torp Killer" we've been waiting for? Is the installation easy? How do you set up the app? We'll tell you everything in this complete guide.
VTB V2: Premium Finish
Right out of the box, the difference from the first generation is striking. VTB has put a lot of effort into the packaging and finish. The controller features beautiful CNC machining (especially in black!), and the new motor adopts this "Premium" visual identity. This is serious hardware, designed to handle high power (up to 80V for the Pro version and much more for the Ultra version).
The kit is complete: controller, motor (if you take the combo), adapted wiring harness, very legible color display, and a switch with an integrated regeneration trigger.
Assembly Tutorial: Is it "Plug & Play"?
Installation on the Sur-Ron Ultra Bee is surprisingly simple. VTB made a big effort on the electrical harness. Each connector is labeled, making wiring almost child's play ("it's baby toy level, the round peg in the round hole").
- Disassembly: Remove the skid plate, side covers, and the original controller (be careful to mark the cables).
- Motor: Changing the motor requires a bit more mechanics (you have to remove the swingarm on the Ultra Bee), but the adjustments are perfect.
- Wiring: The VTB harness connects directly to the original plugs. No soldering, no risky DIY.
VTB App Guide: Master Your Power
This is VTB's big strength: a comprehensive mobile application (iOS and Android) that rivals Torp's. Here are the key settings to know for tuning your bike:
1. Calibrations (Essential)
Before riding, you must go to the "Advanced Settings" tab to launch:
- Motor Calibration: The controller "learns" the specifics of your motor.
- Throttle Calibration: To calibrate the travel of your throttle grip and avoid dead zones.
2. Riding Modes
You can configure 5 modes (Eco, Sport, Race...) with for each:
- Speed Control (Field Weakening): This is what allows you to increase top speed by "weakening" the motor's magnetic field at high RPM. At 100%, it's a rocket!
- Traction Control (Amps): This is raw power. On our Ultra Bee with the original battery, we can confidently go for peak power of 29kW.
3. Riding Feel
Two sliders change the entire behavior:
- Power Blast: This is the "kick in the pants" at startup. The higher it is, the more responsive the bike is at low speeds.
- High Speed Power Compensation: This adds power when the bike is already moving, ideal for high-speed acceleration on a Supermoto.
Our Verdict: VTB or Torp?
VTB hits hard with this V2. The build quality is excellent, the installation is clean, and the app offers a level of adjustment worthy of the best. For those looking for an available, high-performance, and aesthetic alternative to the Torp TC1000, the VTB is a more than serious option.
Whether you have a Light Bee, a Talaria, or an Ultra Bee, the VTB range now covers all needs, from a small upgrade to an 81kW monster.
