The electric off-road motorcycle market is booming, and one question keeps coming up: is there a real "turnkey" alternative to the legendary Sur-Ron Light Bee? A machine that would correct the original flaws without requiring thousands of euros in upgrades? This is the promise of the new E-Ride Pro SR. To find out for sure, we decided to buy it with our own funds to give you a 100% objective and unfiltered verdict, from unboxing to the most comprehensive field test.
Unboxing and Philosophy: An Original "Full Option" Sur-Ron?
Developed by a passionate American team, the E-Ride Pro SR arrives with a dream-worthy technical spec sheet: a 72V 50Ah (3600 Wh) battery, a peak power of 25kW, and L1e or L3e homologation. From the unboxing, you can feel that the philosophy is different. We are dealing with a machine that seems to have listened to all the frustrations of Light Bee owners since 2018.
Detailed Analysis: Every Part Scrutinized
Suspension: Original Fastace Quality
This is one of its biggest strengths. The motorcycle comes standard with a Fastace V2 fork and shock absorber. This is a huge advantage when you know that this is often the first upgrade on a Sur-Ron. Even better, the fork comes with SKF oil seals (the famous red seals), a guarantee of reliability. The fork spring is 60 LBS and the shock absorber spring is 500 LBS, consistent rates with the weight of the machine, avoiding the "bicycle pump" effect of competitors' original suspensions.
Battery and Controller: Power at Your Fingertips
The heart of the system is an impressive steel case battery of 72V 50Ah, using Samsung 50S cells. This is a capacity and cell quality usually found only on high-end custom batteries. The controller, capable of handling 25kW, is fully configurable via a very comprehensive Bluetooth application, allowing you to adjust power, throttle sensitivity, regeneration, and even disable fall or kickstand sensors.
Braking: Safety First
No more mountain bike brakes! The E-Ride Pro SR is equipped with an oversized braking system, similar to that of the Talaria TL5. With 220mm discs, 3mm thick, large calipers, generous pads, and thick hoses, the braking is powerful and durable from the start, an essential point for a machine of this weight and power.
Transmission: The Belt Debate
Yes, the primary transmission is belt-driven, which can be intimidating. But E-Ride has done its homework. The belt is wider (20mm) and carbon-reinforced. More importantly, the pulley and sprocket are hollowed out to allow for the evacuation of mud and stones, the main cause of breakage on the Light Bee. This is a system that, on paper, is designed to handle the power.
Frame and Peripherals: The Killer Details
- Swingarm axle: It is 12mm (like a rear wheel axle), much stronger than the 10mm of the Light Bees which tends to bend.
- Headset: No problematic cup like on Sur-Rons. The bearing inserts directly into the frame, like on a real motorcycle.
- Reinforcements: A footpeg reinforcement bar is present as standard. The swingarm of the SR version is also reinforced.
- Skid Plate: A model made of plastic reinforced by a steel structure, an intelligent compromise between flexibility and strength, inspired by the Ultra Bee.
The Field Test: The Emotional Rollercoaster
Our first test on a Supercross track was a cold shower. The bike was brutal, with an "ON/OFF" throttle response and a huge dead zone that made it almost dangerous and "uncontrollable". We were disappointed, to the point of putting it aside.
Salvation came from the E-Ride Pro app. By exploring the settings, we found THE parameter that changed everything: the throttle sensitivity. By setting it to the minimum, the motorcycle was transformed. The brutal and unpredictable machine became a war machine, both smooth, progressive, and devilishly powerful when asked.
The Final Verdict (and our big announcement)
Once the right setting was found, the enduro test confirmed all the good things we thought about this motorcycle. It combines the maneuverability of a small motorcycle with reassuring stability. Its 25kW power is phenomenal and the range is impressive. Its main drawback remains its weight (83 kg verified), but it is justified by the robustness and quality of the original components.
This test convinced us so much that we couldn't stop there. That's why we are proud to announce that JW Shop is becoming an official E-Ride Pro dealer! We are convinced that this motorcycle represents the best performance/price ratio on the current market for those looking for a powerful and well-equipped machine from the start.
