Beyond technical specifications and power measurements, one question constantly arises: what truly motivates a two-wheel enthusiast to abandon internal combustion engines and switch to electric? To answer this, we decided to change our format. No longer will we just give you our opinion; this time, we handed the microphone to those at the heart of this revolution: our community.
During our last E-Track Day in Sichamps, we met dozens of enthusiasts with unique journeys. Here's what they told us.
Varied Journeys, a Shared Passion
One of the greatest assets of our community is its diversity. We spoke with pure mountain biking enthusiasts, who see in electric motorcycles the perfect blend of bicycle agility and motorcycle adrenaline. We chatted with former thermal motocross riders, some with over 25 years of experience, who are rediscovering the joy of riding without the deafening constraints of a 4-stroke.
We even met a former Moto2 World Championship mechanic, a thermal purist who was blown away by the power and potential of electric. And then there are those for whom the electric motorcycle was an entry point, like this father who equipped his whole family after starting with electric balance bikes and who, due to budget constraints in his youth, was finally able to fulfill his dream of motocross thanks to the accessibility of machines like the Stark Varg.
The 5 Major Advantages of Electric According to the Community
Throughout the interviews, five main advantages consistently emerged:
- Silence: This is the number one argument. Silence allows you to ride without disturbing neighbors, walkers, or wildlife. It transforms enduro practice, often conflictual, into a much more accepted and serene activity. As one participant said: "we can continue to enjoy ourselves without bothering others."
- Ease of Maintenance: No more oil changes, air filters to clean after each outing, valve adjustments... Maintenance is limited to the chassis (chain, brakes, tires). For many, this is a significant saving of time and money, translating into more time spent riding.
- Ease of Learning: For beginners, the absence of a clutch and gearbox is a blessing. It allows them to focus 100% on riding: trajectories, position, braking. It's a fantastic learning tool, as our cameraman discovered during his initiation.
- Riding Pleasure: The linear and instantaneous power of electric bikes offers unique sensations. The lightness of machines like the Sur-Ron Light Bee or the E-Ride Pro makes them incredibly playful and nimble, even for the most experienced riders.
- Versatility: Thanks to the homologation of many models, these motorcycles are not confined to motocross tracks. They allow for forest rides, city commutes, and track fun with the same machine.
A Unique Atmosphere
Beyond the technical aspects, what stands out from this event is the atmosphere. The silence of the machines allows for conversation between sessions, and giving advice directly on the track. There's no stress, no fixed schedules. Just the shared pleasure of riding together, with respect and good humor. Perhaps that, ultimately, is the greatest advantage of electric.
